👋 Hey, I'm Michael!
I was first introduced to disc golf back in the spring of 2004 on a weekend trip to Missoula, Montana. I didn't hear about the sport again until a few years later at a local park (NAD Park in Bremerton, WA). Across town was another disc golf course where Scott Papa (PDGA #10099) sold discs out of his garage, so I bought my first couple discs — a FLX ESP Buzzz and a soft APX putter. I played my first tournament in 2008 (PDGA #36066) and the rest is history.
I played almost every day for a 2-year span but I ended up traveling abroad in 2010 and I pretty much stopped playing all together. But when COVID hit I got back into disc golf because it was one of the few things I could still do while everything was on "lock down". I always had a good backhand but I began improving my sidearm and putting technique. I used to keep track of my putting practice in an Excel file to help me understand what worked best for me (putting stance/stroke, disc stability, jump vs. step, etc.).
After months of practice, the data told me I was the most accurate inside Circle 1 with a straddle strance, using a push putt with a slightly overstable putter. In Circle 2, I was the most consistent with a putter that had more glide, using a spin putt while jumping (as opposed to a step putt or stationary putt).
I injured my shoulder snowboarding in January 2023, and since I was stuck inside with nothing to do I decided to give back to the disc golf community. I built BullseyePutting.com so that you can experiment with different putting variables until you find what works best for you. I hope you enjoy it!
